Target added to the Partnership Wall of Fame
Farmington, Michigan---Farmington Public Schools is fortunate in having many community members, organizations and businesses involved in educational partnership activities with students. The annual Partnership Wall of Fame Award is the District’s opportunity to recognize partners who have developed notable partnerships.
This year, Target, located on Grand River in Farmington, was selected as the Outstanding Partnership, for the 2007-2008 school year. Target, under the management of Brian Sawyer, has worked to promote reading in the District, both with monetary donations and employee volunteers participating in events such as the District’s Book Parade and Read Across America. Target also supported William Grace’s goal of encouraging students to read at home.
Named as Notable Partnerships were Axis Music Academy of Southfield and Pizza Hut of Farmington Hills. Axis Music Academy has provided Chris Brantley as a guest artist to work with students in Tracey Riggs guitar classes at East Middle School. Mr. Brantley brings several different types of guitars and equipment using them to demonstrate various styles of music and playing techniques. Mr. Brantley also talks to the students about his background and career as a professional performer and teacher.
The Pizza Hut job site allows Visions Unlimited students a valuable training experience. Students go to work daily to perform a variety of tasks. Manager Dave Sabol makes learning a priority in his busy schedule and continuously challenges students to assume responsibility for progressively complicated tasks.
All three partnerships were selected by a subcommittee of the Community Partnership Advisory Council. They were recognized by Sue Zurvalec, superintendent, and the Board of Education at the May 20 Board of Education meeting.
A plaque naming Target’s outstanding partnership will be permanently displayed on the Partnership
Wall of Fame located at the Maxfield Training Center.
