Attendance Call In Procedure

Students are expected to be in school and on time to each class every day.  They must attend all scheduled classes unless prior arrangements have been made.  Students should be attentive and prepared with proper materials in order to be actively involved during class time.

Absences:
Parents/Guardians must notify the school of any absences within 24 hours of the student’s absence, providing the nature of the absence.  Failure to excuse the student will result in an unexcused absence for the day.

Excused absences are defined in the student’s planner.  They are:

  • Personal injury or illness
  • Family emergency
  • Medical/dental/legal appointment
  • Funeral
  • Verifiable chronic illness – Statement signed by physician
  • Pre-arranged absences such as a family trip or vacation

An unexcused absence is an absence in a class that has not been excused by a parent. If a student has an absence that remains unexcused, he/she will receive a three hour Saturday School detention for each hour of unexcused absence.  Parents cannot excuse students for an absence if a student leaves the building prior to getting permission.

Tardy Policy:
Cooperation by parent/guardian is necessary to minimize student tardiness.  Oversleeping and missing the bus are not valid reasons to be tardy to school.  If a student arrives to class 15 minutes or more late, the teacher will record an unexcused absence for the student unless the tardy has been excused with an above valid reason.  Students who are 15 minutes or more late should report to the attendance office. Each tardy will result in a one hour after school detention.

Family Access:
We encourage parents to check Family Access to view the status of your students’ attendance.  If you currently are not signed on the Family Access, please call the counseling office at 248-489-3504 to retrieve your access code.

Lunch money
Students should be responsible to bring their money from home when they come to school.  When this is not possible, please place the money in an envelope and put the student’s name on it. While we make every attempt to locate your student by paging them in between classes, we are not responsible if they do not receive it.

Items dropped off
Students are responsible for checking to see if their parent has dropped something off for them.   We will make every attempt to alert them by paging in between classes only. In order to minimize classroom disruptions, we cannot deliver messages or items to students during class time.

When picking up your student for an appointment, or to give a student a message, we ask that you please call the attendance office before the start of 5th hour (1:12 P.M.) It is BEST to call as early as possible in the morning or even the day before and leave a message. 248-489-3497 so we can page the student to come to pick up his/her pass.
