What is Student Round Table?

Student Round Table is a group of students that meet with the Superintendent monthly to get things done within the district. We focus on improvements within our own schools as well as bringing the high schools together through community service projects and other unique opportunities.

What events does the Round Table take part in?

Round Table has three main events in addition to their monthly meetings and smaller community service projects. These events are called "QUEST Day," "Sankofa," and "SOS Day," each is unique to the Farmington Public Schools and involves the community.

QUEST Day: The goal of the day is to bring together students from all of the high schools. Students helped to volunteer at this popular event for families. SRT members toured groups, worked at stations, handled registration, and did various other jobs for the day.

Sankofa: "Sankofa" comes from an African word that means "reaching back to move forward." SRT has taken this term and applied it to our community: each year, SRT members work with a few elementary schools to participate in a community service project together. Elementary school children are taught about the importance of community service, and together with the high school students, they improve some facet of their school.

SOS Day: "SOS" is an acronym for Students Operating Schools. During this day, SRT members and other selected high school students are invited to job shadow an FPS employee. From teachers to maintenance workers to the superintendent, participants get a behind-the-scenes look at how FPS operates. In the second half of the day, students participate in a Town Hall discussion regarding an important topic decided upon by administrators within the district.
